About IVUSS

Mission Statement: The International Veterinary Ultrasound Society’s purpose is to provide education, promote research, and promote excellence in veterinary ultrasonography to all groups performing diagnostic ultrasound in veterinary medicine. The primary method by which the society promotes research and education in veterinary ultrasonography is through organization of an annual meeting, and administering certification programs for veterinarians and registered diagnostic medical sonographers in veterinary ultrasonography.

Structure of Board:
President- one-year term after serving one year as President Elect. Can run for re-election, but will serve as President Elect for a year before taking the seat of the president again. The re-election must win a vote by the general membership by a 2/3 majority. Must be IVUSS certified in good standing.

President Elect: serve one year in this position, automatic transition into President the second year. Must be enrolled and active in the Certification process, and must attain certification by the end of the President Elect Term. If has not attained certification, needs to be close, or the board has the right to decide if a special election is indicated,  to elect a different president elect, and whether the current president serves another year in the position of presidency.

The president elect and the president share responsibilities, and seniority is given to the current president, but it should be considered a shared leadership position, with rank being pulled only in situations of needed tie-breaking. If disputes arise, the board will bring to vote to settle.

Past President: Has the right to choose current role if approved by the board. Currently the role of the past president is to attend Board meetings as deemed necessary, and to assist and cast a vote in policy decisions, and continue any unfinished business and see to completion. Also, be willing to assist in any transition, and certification candidate monitoring.

Member-at-Large: Serves a one year term. Does not need to be IVUSS certified. Needs to be a member in good standing, be able to attend Board meetings, and attend annual meetings during the term.  Can be re-elected twice, then needs a 2/3 majority vote by the general membership to start the cycle again.

Executive Director/Founder: Bob O’Brien.  Lifelong position. This position can be delegated to a person chosen by the Executive Director if approved by the Board and general membership by a 2/3 majority.

This constitutes the board. The Board will elect one person for that year to be responsible for taking the minutes at the Board meetings.  Minutes will be emailed to Board members after the meeting, plus or minus posted on the “member access” page of the website for the general membership to view and comment on as needed.

The board will be responsible for planning annual meetings, and for policy decisions regarding the organization, certification, website, advertising, budget. The membership will be included in voting for major policy changes.
