Signalment: 10 year old male West Highland White Terrier

History: Previous surgical removal of a pancreatic insulinoma; now fever and vomiting 7 days post surgery.

Answer:

Ultrasonographic findings:

A 3.5 x 7 cm hypoechoic mass is present in the midabdomen, associated with the previously placed jejunostomy tube.

A mild amount of hypoechoic free fluid is present in the abdominal cavity.

The mesentery surrounding the pancreas is hyperechoic. The pancreas is enlarged and hypoechoic.

Ultrasonographic diagnosis:

  1. id-abdominal abscess.
  2. Peritonitis.
  3. Pancreatitis.
