Signalment: 10 year old male intact Sheltie
History: 8 week history of polyuria and stranguria
What are your ultrasonographic findings?
What is your diagnosis?
Answer:
Ultrasonographic findings:
- Dilation of the left renal pelvis with anechoic fluid is present, allowing visualization of the renal diverticuli.
- A large irregular mass of soft tissue opacity is present in the trigone of the urinary bladder.
- The right kidney is hyperechoic, has poor corticomedullary distinction, and a mildly dilated renal pelvis.
- The ureters are dilated bilaterally.
Ultrasonographic diagnosis:
- Acute severe hydronephrosis of the left kidney secondary to obstruction at the level of the trigone of the urinary bladder.
- Urinary bladder mass consistent with neoplasia (likely TCC).
- Right chronic renal disease (interstitial nephritis), mild hydronephrosis.
- Bilateral severe hydroureter.
The findings of the urinary bladder mass explained the stranguria.
The findings of the right kidney explain the polyuria.
