Signalment:  6 year old female spayed DSH

History:  Thoracic radiographs were taken for a geriatric health profile; a large soft tissue opacity cranial to the heart was identified.  Thoracic ultrasound was recommended.

Answer:

Thoracic ultrasound:
A large thin walled cyst filled with anechoic fluid, measuring 7 x 5 cm is present cranial to the heart.

Ultrasonographic diagnosis:
Cranial mediastinal cyst (probable branchial cyst).
