Signalment:
10 year old female spayed DSH

7 day history of poor appetite, progressing to anorexia

Questions:

  1. What are your ultrasonographic findings?
  2. What are your differentials?
 

Ultrasound Findings:

  1. Liver enlarged with many hyperechoic nodules
  2. Moderate amount of free anechoic peritoneal fluid
  3. Kidneys bilaterally enlarged, hypoechoic subcapsular infiltration
  4. Mesenteric lymph nodes moderately enlarged and hypoechoic.

Ultrasonographic Diagnosis:

  1. Liver, kidney, and peritoneal infiltrative disease. Differentials include FIP and lymphoma.

PCR of the abdominal effusion was submitted, and tested positive for FIP.
