Signalment:  1 year old female spayed Labradoodle

History: Vomiting for a few days

Image 1: Stomach, long axis

Image 2: Left cranial abdominal intestine, long axis

Image 3: Separate segment of intestine, long axis

Questions:

  1. What are your ultrasonographic findings?
  2. What is your ultrasonographic diagnosis?

Answer:

  1. In the stomach, fluid distended with hyperechoic shadowing foreign body. In two different segments of small intestine, plicate bowel loops are detected with hyperechoic linear foreign bodies inside, one measured 2.7cm.
  2. Gastric foreign body with fluid distended stomach. Linear foreign bodies in two population of small intestine.
  3. Recommendation: surgery

Result of this patient: A tampon and fibrous material covered in digesta were found in the stomach and jejunum during the surgery.
