Signalment:  10 year old spayed female Springer Spaniel

History: Recurrent fever, responds to antibiotics and NSAIDS. Swelling on left dorsal flank

Image: Hypaxial musculature adjacent to retroperitoneum caudal to level of the left kidney in site of small swollen area.

Answer:

Wood foreign body and localized abscess.

Foreign bodies usually have a shadow artifact.

The surrounding fluid or edema allow us the see the foreign body well.

The recommendation was for surgical removal.

Ultrasonographic diagnosis of foreign bodies associated with chronic draining tracts and abscesses in dogs.
